Wintersculling Weekly Process

Saturday An email to all that entries close 5pm Saturday and reminding parents of all children registered that if they wish to enter a child who is not already entered for the next Saturday they must email before Saturday night including their csv number.

Monday night List of all entries goes to the handicappers.

Tuesday An email to all reminding to email before 5pm Wednesday if  you know you can’t race, or making requests for boat shares, start time constraints.

Monday to Wednesday Handicappers set/adjust base times and return files.

Thursday & Friday night Scratchings removed from handicap lists, race numbers assigned and heats or start list for head races prepared and published.  Any scratchings, boat share requests or late entries received after this process has started are ignored.

Complaints about handicaps get a standard email reply explaining handicap process and saying “sorry, see how it goes next week”.

Late entries i.e. after 5pm Monday, are not accepted. (System will lock out at 5pm, later emails get standard reply.)

Start Time
For most events, racing starts at 8.30am each week and generally concludes by 10am. For the Handicap Series, the 800m heats commence at 8.50am and the 2km heats start at 9am.

Bow Numbers
Bow numbers will be used for all events and will be available for collection from 7.30am. No deposit is required but if you are unable to bring the number back we will charge you $30. PLEASE BRING YOUR NUMBER BACK AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE.

For races on the Yarra, bow numbers must be collected from MUBC and returned by 10.30am.

Fees:
The annual fee to register with the VSA is $40.00.

The cost of entering each race is $10.00.

Entry:

To enter, go to the "Register" tab on the top line of this site.

Weekly Confirmation and Scratching

You don't need to confirm your entry each week, having registered and entered for multiple events over several weeks.  However, if you need to scratch for any reason, you must scratch your race entry by email to:   wintersculling@hotmail.com   before 6.00pm on Monday each week.

We need scratchings to ensure that we include everyone who wants to race, but not people who don't plan to turn up. These emails should have the subject shown as follows: " J . Smith   entry 26/7 scratch" , so that the email does not need to be opened by the person processing entries.

Please scrach if you can't make it, half empty races aren't fun.

Entries will be collated and starting order and times finalised in time for this information to be published on the wintersculling.com.au website by Friday, under the Draws section of the website. The starting order and times will also be displayed at MUBC at 7:30 am Saturday.

No late entries will be accepted ,
because this causes delay in race starts, inconveniencing all competitors.

(Please don't ask to be the exception.)

Event Distances

The 4 km Albert Park Grand Prix features a mass start, and a starting grid with pole position awarded to the sculler judged to be fastest by the organizers. The race will comprise one and a half anti clockwise laps of the lake.

The 6 km Round the Island race will start and finish at the Judge's Box.

Rounds 1 to 6 of the Handicap Series will be over 800m for novice scullers (in any sort of scull) and 2000m for experienced rowers, finishing at the Judge's Box.

The Head of the Maribyrnong starts at the Canoe Club downstream from the Raleigh Rd / Maribyrnong Rd Bridge, and finishes approximately 3.2 km downstream at Lynches Bridge.

The 8 km Sculler's Head of the Yarra for racing boats starts at the Hawthorn Rowing Club and finishes at the Judge's Box. Tub boats also start at Hawthorn Rowing Club and race 8 km to the Judge's Box.
